Fabulous location by a beautiful beach. Close to the ferry port, with nice big pitches. We were blessed with great weather which was a massive bonus. Toilets and showers all ok, they only get dirty due to others not leaving them clean after use, or public (non campsite users) stopping to use them, this included one motorhome that we watch come in off the road, use the showers and filled with water and then left, I guess they were “wild campers” too, most who are just “taking” from the islands and not “giving” anything back, a shame.
Stunningly beautiful campsite spot with fantastic access to a lovely beach that is great for a dip. However, their office is not always occupied and thankfully we had phone signal to ring them when we arrived to actually work out where to park and put the tent. For the pitches by the beach, you have to leave your car in the car park, which is completely fine to have to walk to your pitch, but it’s not fine when there are no spaces in the (small!!) car park as there are many users in the car park who are on the beach and have nothing to do with the campsite. You could tell this was the case as by early evening the car park was then only half full. A private campsite where anyone and everyone could park and use the beach, as well as the campsite toilets seems rather off. When we were packing up, the toilets were closed for cleaning as “they didn’t want non campsite users using the toilets” as apparently they are normally open during cleaning, but a tour group turned up and parked in a minibus in the car park. Feels like they know the problem exists but have not come up with a solution! Really think they should put some kind of code lock on to the toilets and even the car park. Having to pay for the showers too was not good especially when you are paying £15 per night, and you have to have £1 coins which not many people have. There is a communal changing area for the showers too which is very old fashioned and could cause embarrassment! Phone signal is sparse out there and we would’ve been completely clueless as we received no text confirmation of payment or instructions upon arrival as the office was empty.
We had been wild camping for a week and fancied a campsite as a rest and were disappointed, almost felt like we were paying £30 for two nights to have a toilet within a 2 minute walk (and lots of screaming children - not the campsite’s fault of course).
However, the campsite spot is the best I’ve ever stayed at in terms of its view and proximity to a stunning beach, and the facilities were well-kept and clean.
Basic facilities, affordable campsite, direct access to beach.
Hot showers £1 for 8 min, only 2 showers in the ladies so I imagine can get busy.
Visited at end of September so it was very quiet and clean. There is a room for dishwashing and sockets available for phone charging. No hookups, water filling available but hose is around 1m long on side of building so may have trouble filling your tank if you don’t have your own hose.
Phone signal: 4G for O2; no internet/phone bars for 3.
What a spot. Upper area for big tents and campervans had restricted sea views. For tents book the area by the sea. Nice grass area close to beach, well kept. May be worth avoiding the larger area since we had a mega tent appear right beside us, should have pitched up in the smaller cut areas. Shower block was simple and no all that clean, could really do with an upgrade, and not that big for all those staying. Friendly welcome albeit short opening hours for the office.
The site is an undulating field next to the beach with public access, which makes it feel a little impersonal but we pitched our caravan farther rather closer to the beach and enjoyed a fab couple of days on the beautiful beach (including swims) and the other adjacent beaches (Luskentyre is just magnificent). Office only staffed in the afternoon but your text messgae booking confirmation will tell you your pitch number. Staff seem fine and helpful. Would happily stay again.
Fab campsite right next to beach.
No hookup £20 per night. Facility block on beach front so can be a long walk depending on pitch.
Showers £1 but last for ages.
Definitely worth a night or two.
Beautiful campsite with very clean toilet block and washing facilities. We were given easy and clear check in instructions, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
Incredible location, but facilities desperately need dragging into the 21st century. Two showers and two toilets (for men, and the same again for women) simply aren't enough for the people on site. Perhaps 15 years ago, but not now. The owner needs to invest some money and stop taking campers for granted.
